VESSELS

After ending my job as a carpenter a few years ago, I became inspired by photographs of wood, knots and rope, animal hide and twine, steel and copper, wood grain and layers of dirt.

Making these collages by hand helps to structure my process by forcing me to unearth shapes and textures from already existing images, instead of building them from nothing.

For this collage series, I want to both abstract the source material and produce recognition.

My intent is for this tension to create a playful oscillation between clarity and confusion.
